Cashewnut Tree Bungalows - small and friendly guesthouse - perfect for long-stay visitors or backpackers on a budget

Cashewnut Tree Bungalows are a group of eight inexpensive bungalows located just a short walk (3 minutes) from the beach in Kantiang Bay.

Each large bungalow is simply furnished with a fan, double bed, en-suite bathroom with cold water shower and a small terrace outside. They are particularly popular with long-stay visitors and backpackers on a budget.

PLUS – Very good value for money at the budget-end of the scale, free WIFI in the restaurant and the rooms are clean, quiet and just a short walk from the beach, bars, local shops and restaurants

MINUS – Free WIFI does not reach to all the bungalows and there’s no air-con option. There are no mosquito-nets on the windows, which have no glass, just wooden shutters. If it’s been raining, there’s sometimes a muddy area to negotiate to get into the main communal area.

Update 2011-12: Cait & Ned no longer run the resort having moved next door to give Freedom Adventures its own base. The bar and book-swop which they created, are no longer.

The bungalows are located just a few minutes walk from Kantiang Bay beach, a good range of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops and the local 7-Eleven.

The bungalows have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and are run by a local Thai-Muslim family. The restaurant is not open every day, but when it is, they serve particularly good food at great prices. Free WiFi is provided to their guests (password required). All in all, pretty good value from what’s essentially, a very small and simple guesthouse.

Cashewnut Tree Bungalows are perfect for long-stay visitors or backpackers on a budget. The steeply sloping roofs makes some of the bathrooms a little tricky to negotiate, but if you’re looking for somewhere cheap to stay, this is a very good choice.
